TN On The Edge of Civilized*

What Will House Democrats Do with Pro-Life SJR 127?
The Answer May Rest With Your State Rep. Henry Fincher

With a slim majority in the state House, the Democrat party continues to hold the power of life and death over SJR 127 (Senate Joint Resolution 127*), a pro-life resolution seeking a public vote to protect Tennessee's unborn children and abortion-vulnerable women. While a bi-partisan majority of House members have co-sponsored this resolution, House leadership remains stridently pro-abortion, including House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh (D-Covington) and Speaker Pro Tem, Lois DeBerry (D-Memphis.) Both strongly oppose passage of SJR 127.Pro-life SJR 127 has passed the state Senate four times since 2001 but has consequently been killed each time in the state House (2002, 2004, 2006.) The resolution most recently passed the state Senate in January by a vote of 23-9. It is scheduled to be heard in a hostile House subcommittee on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26 in Legislative Plaza Room LP 16. The fate of the pro-life resolution likely rests with rank and file House members such as Rep. Henry Fincher. Will he exercise leadership in order to allow a public vote in 2010? Will Rep. Fincher exert influence within his own party so that SJR 127 may be passed and common sense pro-life protections restored in our state? Regardless of your party affiliation, please contact Rep. *Because of a radical 4-1 ruling by the Tennessee Supreme Court in 2000, Tennessee now boasts a broader 'right to abortion' than that recognized by Roe v. Wade or the U.S. Constitution. Basic commonsense protections passed by the Tennessee General Assembly were struck down as violating this newly discovered "right to abortion" within the Tennessee Constitution.

The disastrous result in Tennessee is abortion on demand with:
  • NO INFORMED CONSENT FOR WOMEN CONSIDERING ABORTION
  • NO 48 HOUR WAITING PERIOD
  • NO 'HOSPITALIZATION' REQUIREMENT FOR SECOND TRIMESTER ABORTIONS
  • NO REGULATION OF ABORTION FACILITIES
(ie., Women cannot depend on being medically safe)

LET THE PEOPLE VOTE: YES ON SJR 127
